You cannot have ever have absolute freedom in these traditions in the Near East or further East. In Neoplatonism, at least, there’s a difference between being subject to earthly fate or being part of the divine order as like a god or something. But neither one in my, I suspect, actually has freedom. Because if you’re subject to the divine order, you’re basically a law of physics and our universe is probably determinist. And if you are a human, then you’re probably subject to the physics of being a human. And in theory, being a god feels better. But in reality, by the standards of Neoplatonism, it probably doesn’t feel like anything because it’s really just a law of physics with your face on it. Legacy, not so good if you actually want to be conscious after death. And any time in real life where we end up with freedom, like absolute freedom, you end up with either one of two outcomes. A state with laws or a moral bureaucracy. One example is the idea that it is not okay to have sex outside your sexual orientation. Because if you do that without some sort of cultural incentive, or rather without, then that is your sexual orientation. Then there’s a third idea that actually sexual orientation and behavior is part of sexual orientation. Therefore, it is literally impossible to have sex outside your sexual orientation because if you do, your sexual orientation changes. But there seems to be this great bureaucracy where lesbians do not want to have sex with bisexual women and bisexual women do not want to have sex with questioning women. And also lesbians don’t want to have sex with questioning women. No one wants to have sex with questioning women. The solution to this, of course, is for the questioning women to have sex with each other. Although that could be hazardous if they find they’re not into it. But you’ll see that even if the questioning women having sex with each other is the solution, it’s still, the concept of sexual exploration is still demonized. And it’s still a great big bureaucracy. And I don’t know if the rules of this bureaucracy must always must always be followed. But that’s what we end up is the same. And I don’t know if we end up. Ireland.
Poetic Adaptation
A god is a law, a decree carved in light, A physics of spirit, unyielding and bright. A human is bound by the pulse and the bone, Two gears in a machine, each sitting alone.
We seek a wild freedom, a space without walls, But build a bureaucracy where the identity calls. From the cosmic decree to the labels we wear, We are maps of a system, trapped in the snare.
Visual Scene Prompts
Prompt 1: A cinematic, hyper-realistic wide shot of a colossal, translucent human face merged with a complex, golden celestial clockwork mechanism. The face is made of shimmering light and geometric lines, representing “physics with a face.” Ethereal atmosphere, deep shadows, 8k resolution, Neoplatonic aesthetic.
Prompt 2: A surrealist image of an infinite, labyrinthine hallway of filing cabinets made of frosted glass. Each drawer is glowing with a different colored light, and tiny, intricate labels are etched onto the glass. Ghostly figures move through the maze, trying to organize the light. Moody chiaroscuro lighting, dust motes dancing in the air.
Prompt 3: A high-contrast, artistic shot of a person standing at a crossroads in a desert where the sand is made of millions of overlapping, tiny scraps of paper covered in dense text and legalistic script. The horizon is blurred, and the person is reaching out toward a shimmering, invisible barrier. Dramatic, moody lighting, ultra-detailed textures.
